Update from Pastor Alan Swartz, Jan. 19, 2010
Hope With Haiti (Food Kits)
In the Hope With Haiti response plan, the following districts were asked to collect food items:
· New Bern
· Raleigh
· Rockingham
· Rocky Mt.
· Sanford
· Wilmington
Food Items - $12 Value
· New, unopened & sealed bag of dried beans
· New, unopened & sealed bag of rice
· New, unopened cans of vegetables (any size with pop top lid)
· New, unopened cans of fruits (any size with pop top lid)
We want to provide you with packing information for the food items:
- Food can be boxed in containers with the weight being no more than 60 pounds.
- If possible, please box items in “like” parcels, i.e., all bags of rice in one box, all canned goods in one box, all beans in one box.
- Packed boxes should be no more than 60 pounds.
- If you have already "containerized" your collected goods in another manner, it is fine. Take them to your district collection sites as you have "containerized" them.
This is only for the food items. Health kits, for those who have packaged them, should be placed inside a sealed one-gallon plastic bag.
Haiti Update for Jan. 19, 2010
We will continue to use CGP warehouse through next Sunday. We need volunteers from 8 AM-5 PM today through Sunday to work there. We also need 1 or 2 volunteers here at the church.
We also need people who are willing to donate or go around to businesses and see who will donate lunch everyday this week for the volunteers. We generally have around 20 volunteers. Please email or call Sarah Norris as soon as possible if you can help: 919-553-6464 or email sarah@horneumc.net.
Haiti Update from Pastor Alan Swartz
I wish to thank you on behalf of the people of Horne Memorial UMC who are engaged in missions work in Haiti. Horne Memorial operates the Ryan Epps Orphanage in Cotin, Haiti. We also have ongoing projects building wells and providing food, clothing, and improved housing. Helen Little leads our efforts in Haiti, and she is on her 74th trip to Haiti right now with a medical team hard at work helping people injured in the recent earthquake. We are doing all we can to get medical and health supplies to them. Any help that you can provide us in these efforts would be greatly appreciated.
God bless you, Dr. Alan P. Swartz, Lead Pastor

Fabric for Blankets Needed
Blankets for Kids The Nell Holland Circle, as a service project, has been making fleece blankets for the children of Johnston County for 4 years. Blankets have been given to Hospice, Child Protective Services for Foster Children, Project Enlightment, Cooper Children, and for families of abuse. Blankets are made at the October meeting and in the winter months. Donations of fleece would be greatly appreciated. There is a box downstairs for the fleece. For a child's blanket, we need 1 1/2 yards of fleece. For a child over 10 we need 2 yards of fleece.
Let's Dance!!!!
Dance Ministry Starting in October, we will have praise dance for high school students and adults! We willhave devotional and prayer time each week followed by a different style of dance each month. We will begin with basic liturgical dance that incorporates a lot of sign language. Based on the interests of the participants, we will move to ballet, clogging, even hip hop. Besides experiencing a different way to worship, you will have fun while getting some exercise and much needed stress relief! Please join us on Sunday nights 5:30-6:30 PM.
Media INFO!
If you have media/sound needs for services and events in the traditional service or Fellowship hall that requires, soundboards, screen, projectors, laptops. Please make sure that you contact Sarah Norris in the church office so she can connect you with one of our media/sound team members. This should be done when you schedule the event on the calendar with Sarah. We need at least 2 weeks notice to insure a member is available to help you with your needs.
We encourage a member from each team to be trained for media/sound so that you can handle running the information for your teams event. This does require training. If you are interested in being trained please call Sarah or contact Gary Brace.
Jonathan Fund
The Jonathan Fund has been established to help members and regular attendees of Horne Memorial who are in a crisis situation. If you need help, call Pastor Swartz at 553-6464x122 or Ed Smith at 550-8430. If you are not in crisis, you can help your church family by giving a donation to the fund.
Clayton Area Ministries
Clayton Area Ministries (CAM) is in need of our help. They need canned meat, milk, beans, etc. If you have extra at home or can pick up a few extra cans when you are at the grocery store, it would be a great help. There is a drop-off area in the church near the office. They receive help during the holidays, but then the giving slows. The food is to serve our neighbors locally that need help. Thanks in advance for your support.
