ZOE Prayer Update - January 25, 2010
Basic Needs for Zambia
A ZOE Medical Team worked in the Misisi slum area of Lusaka, Zambia last summer. On their first day, they saw more than 250 people, most of them children. A team member wrote:
“The line of patients moved from the check-in table, to the nurses’ station, to one of three doctor's stations, and finally to the pharmacy where team members furiously cranked out prescription after prescription of Tylenol, anti-fungals, anti-biotics and more anti-malarials than one would hope to dispense."
At the end of the day, a small group from the team was asked to make several clinical home visits. They set out on foot through Misisi to a home where four of the five family members is HIV positive. Three of them (mother and two children) suffer with serious co-existing infections. Thanks to the generosity of a charity organization in the area, the mother and children have received expensive medications that are very difficult to come by. Yet the mission team's blog noted the heartbreaking irony:
“None of the three could take the medication because it must be taken with food and there was no food to be found.”
Prayer Points:
- Pray for the children in ZOE’s project in Zambia that they may have their basic needs met.
- Pray for children who have no support network that they may receive the care they need.
- Pray for the family suffering with HIV as they struggle with co-existing conditions and lack of adequate food.
- Pray that God may use your life to serve the lives of those in need.
