Horne Memorial Preschool was established as a non-profit organization in 1996; it serves as a ministry of Horne Memorial United Methodist Church.

The school’s mission is to provide a wide variety of fun and educational activities in an organized, church-run, preschool setting. We promote learning, cooperation, socialization, and a positive first-school experience.

Curriculum

We provide children with theme-related and age-appropriate activities in circle time, crafts, science, math, stories, cooking, snacks, music, and on field trips. We allow children to learn at their own pace; each child develops differently and on his or her own schedule.

Circle Time: At the beginning of each day, the group discusses the weather, the seasons, the calendar, and the theme for the day.
Music: Theme-related music, songs, and creative movement are included in our program.
Science: Age-appropriate activities focusing on observation, classification, and use of the senses are introduced.
Math: Number and shape recognition, counting skills and basic math principles are introduced.
Crafts: During craft time, children are introduced to a variety of materials and mediums by which to create. We emphasize process over product.
Outside Play: Weather permitting, children go outside daily for both free play and structured games.
Snacks: One healthy snack is provided each day, and it is theme-related when possible. If you wish to provide a special snack for your child’s birthday, please notify the teacher at least two weeks in advance.
Cooking: Cooking is periodically interwoven to integrate other curriculum areas. For example, children will be allowed to prepare their own snacks and practice measurement and discuss sensory experiences.
Story Time: Reading occurs daily, and frequently, the children attend the library’s story time.
Field Trips: We try to schedule several field trips; however, we will go on these trips only if we have adequate supervision and parental support.

Hours and Schedules by Age Groups Served:

The preschool is open from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon beginning the day after Labor Day and ending two weeks before the Johnston County School year ends. We observe the same holidays and teacher workdays as the Johnston County Public Schools.
