Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard

Acolytes

Acolytes

Traditionally, church services begin with a time of mediation.  At our traditional services at 8:30 am and 11:00 am, two acolytes, wearing vestments, come down the aisles to light candles and set a reverent tone for the service.

Acolytes are usually in the 4th through 6th grades.  However, they may serve longer. The parents and young person must prayerfully consider the acolyte ministry because of its responsibility and commitment.

Acolytes are trained and in addition to serving for our traditional Sunday worship services, they may also serve at special services such as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, and Wednesday evening prayer service.

The term acolyte comes from the Greek word “akolouthos” which means “follower” or “attendant”.  The primary duties of the acolyte are to serve God and the church and to assist the pastor during the service.
